You need
- to complete the Health Sciences First Year programme at the University of Otago OR the first year of either a Bachelor of Health Sciences or Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) at the University of Auckland
- a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- at least 2 years of general medical training for general registration as a medical practitioner
- 5 years of training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Fellowship programme
- an Annual Practising Certificate
- to pass a police check
