You need more than one qualification to become an emergency medicine specialist.
You need
- to complete the Health Sciences First Year programme at the University of Otago OR the first year of either the Bachelor of Health Sciences or Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland
- a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
- to complete 5 years' advanced training in emergency medicine
- 2 years' general medical experience
- to pass the FACEM primary and final exams to become a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
- an Annual Practising Certificate
- a driver licence
- to pass a police check
