The Rangatahi Futures programme guides rangatahi to explore the past in Careers of our ancestors, understand the present in Our place in the economy and look to their future through career planning and study or training options.

Rangatahi Futures is divided into 12 sessions in 2 parts:

• Careers of our ancestors (Sessions 1–7).
• Our place in the economy (Sessions 8–12).

Each session contains a plan and supporting PowerPoint plus relevant kaiārahi resources and rangatahi activities.

Resources across Rangatahi Futures include:

• Kaiārahi session plans and other resources.
• Kaiārahi PowerPoints.
• Rangatahi activities like action plans, card sorts, poster templates, quizzes.
• Linked resources on Tahatū.

Rangatahi Futures is grounded in these principles:

• Rangatahi knowledge and experiences are the foundation.
• Māori language, culture and heritage are sources of career potential.
• Authentic discussion and sharing is encouraged.
• Rangatahi develop the skills, qualities, and values needed to shape their own career journey.

• All resources are printable in A4 format, or A3 format (Session 2: Tūpuna career profile posters, Session 4: Scholarship event posters, Session 12: New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) template).
• The rangatahi activity action plans Te haerenga hou career planner (Sessions 1, 2, 5, 7) and Whenua career action plan (Sessions 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) are interactive and can be completed by rangatahi and saved electronically or printed as a handout.

The following resources allow kaiārahi to print and cut out cards to run the activity:

• Session 6: Challenges and choices. Rangatahi activity: Challenges and choices cards. Printed on A4 with two A5 cards per page.
• Session 8: Early enterprise. Rangatahi activity: Early enterprise cards. Printed on A4 with two A5 cards per page.
• Session 12: Climbing my mountain. Rangatahi activity: NZQCF cards. 10 small cut out cards to fit template.
• Session 12: Climbing my mountain. Rangatahi activity: Qualification cards. 10 small cut out cards to fit template.

The following posters enable kaiārahi or rangatahi to add images or text:

• Session 2: Strengths we inherit. Rangatahi activity: Researching tūpuna poster templates – text and images can be filled in and uploaded online or on printed copies.
• Session 10: Māori business owners. Rangatahi activity: Business bullrush posters – an image can be printed, cut out and added to the printed local poster.

• All sessions align with 3 key career management competencies – developing self-awareness, exploring opportunities and deciding and acting. These are reflected in the competency statements included in each session plan.
• Resources are branded gold and brown for kaiārahi resources and blue for rangatahi activities.
• Read the introductions for Part 1: Careers of our ancestors and Part 2: Our place in the economy as guidance to the programme’s objectives before you start.
• Read each session plan and activity guides carefully before delivering the session.
• Allow time to complete any research needed to support the activities.

Explore career ideas

You can deliver the programme in ways that suit your learning environment. It can be used as a full career development programme of all 12 sessions, or adapted to create career conversations and activities that suit the needs of your organisation and rangatahi.

You can use Rangatahi Futures to:

• run individual sessions as stand-alone activities
• combine sessions to build a wider programme or learning pathway
• adapt sessions for classrooms, whānau hui, community workshops or mentoring settings.
