Asset managers
- usually work regular business hours but may work extra hours
- usually work in offices but may travel locally to visit clients
- need to identify and solve problems, communicate well and work well under pressure
Tasks
- plan maintenance of buildings, roads and other assets
- manage and track investments to grow wealth
- find and fix risks for assets
- cut costs on assets
- analyse data to improve asset use
- budget for repairs and new assets
- follow legal and safety rules
- work with communities and businesses
- check and improve asset conditions
- create reports on asset performance
You need experience to become an asset manager and a qualification may be useful.
You need
- experience in asset management, finance, accounting or similar area
You may need
- to complete training courses
- a New Zealand Diploma in Infrastructure Asset Management
- a bachelor’s degree in commerce, business, engineering, property or similar area
- a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Infrastructure Asset Management
- a Master of Infrastructure Asset Management
- to be registered with a relevant industry body
If you’re in school
You usually need NCEA Level 3 or University Entrance to do the study or training for this job.
