Māori ancestors used skills like navigation, innovation and leadership to support their whānau and strengthen their communities. Those same strengths live on in rangatahi today.
The refreshed Rangatahi Futures programme is now available in te reo Māori and English on the Career Practice Hub, giving career practitioners, educators and facilitators new ways to support rangatahi Māori to explore their futures.
The Tertiary Education Commission worked with Hāpai Tūhono to refresh the popular career education programme resources so organisations can use them easily. Community groups and iwi can now deliver them, alongside schools and kura.
Rangatahi Futures is a free career education programme grounded in te ao Māori. It helps rangatahi build confidence, identify their strengths, and explore education, training and work pathways in a way that reflects their identity, language and culture.
The resources are practical and easy to use. You can tailor Rangatahi Futures to fit with your current career initiatives and build on it with your own experience. Deliver the full programme or choose individual sessions to suit your rangatahi and activities.
The programme also supports meaningful career conversations by encouraging connections with whānau, iwi and communities, and highlighting opportunities within the Māori economy.
This refresh contributes to the National Careers System Strategy and Action Plan by supporting community-led approaches to career education, improving equitable access to career support, and strengthening career practice across the sector.
