Wool classers
- usually work regular business hours but may work extra hours, including early mornings and weekends
- usually work in shearing sheds or wool stores and may travel locally and nationally
- may work in hot, dirty and noisy conditions
- may do physically demanding work
- need to be practical, accurate and work well under pressure
Tasks
- keep wool breeds separate
- package agricultural products for shipment or further processing
- measure physical characteristics of forestry or agricultural products
- sort wool into groups that have uniform colour, length, fault, and fibre diameter
- keep records of wool bales pressed
- evaluate the quality of wool
You usually learn on the job to become a wool classer and experience or a qualification may be useful.
You may need
- experience in similar work
- a driver licence with a forklift (F) endorsement
