Tasks
- Install parts, assemblies, or attachments in transportation or material handling equipment.
- Verify information or specifications.
- Connect cables or electrical lines.
- Inspect cargo areas for cleanliness or condition.
- Control pumps or pumping equipment.
- Monitor vehicle movement or location.
- Position material handling equipment.
- Monitor loading processes to ensure they are performed properly.
- Communicate with others to co-ordinate material handling or movement.
- Mark materials or objects for identification.
You usually learn on the job to become a loader operator.
You need
- a driver licence with a wheels, tracks and rollers (WTR) endorsement
You may need
- experience in similar work
- a Class 2 or Class 4 driver licence
- to do a Site Safe Passport course and get a Site Safety Card
- to pass a medical assessment and drug test
If you’re in school
You usually don’t need specific NCEA levels for this job.
