Aviation inspectors
- usually work shifts and may be on call during weekends and evenings
- usually work in maintenance workshops, airports, airfields and aircraft hangars
- may work in all weather conditions
- need to be responsible, safety conscious and work well under pressure
Tasks
- review aircraft equipment, systems and procedures
- make sure flight safety rules are followed
- investigate flight incidents and safety concerns
- issue flight licences and safety certificates
- suggest fixes and improvements
- record aircraft services and repairs
- plan and schedule aircraft inspections

You need
- experience in similar work
- an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AMEL) or recognised equivalent experience
- 60 months of practical aviation engineering experience if no formal engineering training
You may need
- a New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Pre-Employment Skills) (Level 3)
- a New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Level 4)
- a graduate certificate or diploma in aircraft maintenance and aeronautical engineering
- a New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Production Control) (Level 6)
- a relevant tertiary qualification in aerospace engineering and technology
- a pilot licence
- relevant military experience
