- a Class 2, 3, 4 or 5 driver licence

- a rollers (R), tracks (T) or wheels (W) driver licence endorsement
- a New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Heavy Vehicle Operator) (Level 3)
- experience in similar work
