You need experience to become a payroll officer and a qualification may be useful.

- experience in similar work

- a relevant tertiary qualification in business and management, accountancy or similar area
- to join the New Zealand Payroll Practitioners Association (NZPPA)

You usually need NCEA Level 3 to do the study or training for this job.
