You need a qualification and experience to become a building inspector.
You need
- a qualification recognised in the Building Regulations 2006 Act
- a diploma or bachelor’s degree in building surveying, construction, construction management, quantity surveying, architecture, building science or engineering
You may need
- experience in similar work
- a driver licence
- to be a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
- to be a member of the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS) or the New Zealand Institute of Building Inspectors (NZIBI)
- to be registered as an Independent Qualified Person (NQP)
- to be a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP)
- knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and the Building Code 2022
